Vision System Examples

Parts Counting

A system was required to quickly and easily count parts being supplied by a sub contractor. We provided a system that counts the parts on foam trays as they are received from the supplier to verify the exact number of parts supplied.

  • Single Camera System
  • Counts Components on a tray
  • Designed for 2 tray sizes
  • Accommodates a diverse number of different
    object shapes and sizes
  • Each component counted is highlighted
  • Record tray count and batch count
  • The maximum count is limited only by the
    minimum size of object

O-Ring Inspection

Part of a fully automated assembly process involved fitting an O-ring to a component. To ensure the O-ring could be handled by the assembly system and it would perform correctly when in service a vision system was used to examine it. The integrity, diameter, wall thickness and circularity were all checked and the O-ring either accepted or removed from the system.

o-ring
  • Automatic image fixturing to account for positional
    variation
  • Measure the internal and external diameter
  • Check the circularity
  • Measure the wall thickness
  • Inspect for damage
  • Generate a pass or fail result

Injection Atomisation Analysis

Part of final component test involved checking the correct number of injection holes were present in the component and in the correct position relative to each other and to the feed hole. To check these properties the component was orientated and then fired. At the point of firing the atomisation image was captured and analysed.

  • Capture of very rapidly changing image
  • Detection of the centre of the component around which to base the analysis
  • Masking off of part of the image to improve analysis
  • Location of the spray plumes
  • Comparison of the number of plumes found with the number expected
  • Calculation of the angle of the plumes with respect to each other and the feed hole
